Morenci is a company town in every sense, built by Freeport and shaped by generations of families who've called it home since prospectors first staked claims here in the 1870s. Alongside neighboring Clifton, this tight-knit community in the high desert of Greenlee County has grown up around one of the largest copper deposits in the world, and today it's still where grandparents, parents and kids build their lives and careers side by side. Morenci is also one of Freeport's flagship operations and the largest open-pit copper mine in North America.
